“Light Exists” 6/2/2019

I’m pleased to announce Small Creatures will be dancing at The Athenaeum in Alexandria, VA on Sunday, June 2, 2019! The company is partnering with a wonderful artist, Barbara Januszkiewicz, for a performance and artist talk as part of her upcoming exhibit “Lyrical Flight.” My good friend and longtime collaborator, classical guitarist Mark Charles Smith, will also be joining us from North Carolina.

I will be showcasing revived work as well as debuting new pieces, both choreographed and improvised. Barbara’s approach to painting is highly complimentary to my approach to dancing, and we both love the collaborative process. The dances will be in dialogue with the paintings throughout the performance, sometimes in an intimate manner and sometimes from a distance. Viewers will be encouraged to roam, taking in the art from all angles.
