Since 2013, I have operated this small dance company under the name ACW Dances. The name was always meant to be a placeholder, but nothing stood out to me as the perfect moniker until recently. In February 2019, my first child passed away during birth from a cord accident. The process of dealing with this loss lead me to the company’s new name, Small Creatures Dance Project.

“For small creatures such as we the vastness is bearable only through love.”

I discovered the above Carl Sagan quote in January 2019, about a month before my daughter’s death. I had already decided to rename the company and to begin investigating new themes relating to expansiveness and vastness in my work. With the personal tragedy has come yet another way to explore these topics. I have experienced the world as cold and statistical, with no rhyme or reason. We are small creatures, only existing in the space of an eyeblink, and truly such vastness is bearable only through love.
